How long have you been building homes?
Ed Wilson, our Owner and Co-Founder, has been building homes in DFW since 2004. Ed has a degree in Construction Management and is on every job site several times per week. Chris, the other Co-Founder has been building and running businesses for most of his life, and places great emphasis in communication and transparency.
Where in DFW do you build?
We build all across the DFW metroplex, but our headquarters is in Allen. But we have the most experience building in Allen, Lucas, Fairview, Prosper, Frisco, McKinney, Dallas, Plano, Richardson across the mid cities and in outlying rural areas, but we can build just about anywhere in North Texas.
How long will it take to build my custom home?
This can vary widely, depending on size, build preferences and finishes. Generally speaking, a custom home above 3,000 square feet takes between 7 and 10 months to build.
Do you have references that I can contact?
Absolutely! We'd be happy to provide a list of references that you are free to contact.
What is your price per square foot?
Could you imagine walking into a restaurant and asking "How much is dinner?" It all depends, right? Would you like the ribeye, the lobster or the hamburger? Will you be getting drinks and an appetizer or just a main course?
The same can be said in custom home building, there are way too many variables to answer this without first knowing what your needs are. However, we can offer some clarity and insight into this question. Our prices are very comparable to most legitimate homebuilders in the city, but our communication, craftsmanship and integrity cannot be beat. If you find a better price, please sure you know what all is included in that price (septic, driveway, upgrades, fire suppression, etc). Also, because we specialize in the "build on your lot" option, this generally results in significant savings, as there is no markup on the land.
Are you insured?
Absolutely! We are licensed, bonded and insured. And we are happy to show you documentation! Never build with anyone who isn't.
Have you ever been sued by a homeowner?
We've never been sued by anyone, period. Please ask, and we'll send complete background checks on both co-owners. If you like, you can run the background check yourself. No arrests, misdemeanors, felonies, bankruptcies or lawsuits. We aren't perfect, but we try to be. If a builder won't answer these questions honestly and transparently then why build with them?
Can I choose my own floorplan?
Of course! We have several options to choose from, and these can either be altered or thrown out altogether in favor of your own. We are easy to work with and don't want you to make any concessions when building your dream home.
What if I don't own my land outright?
Most people don't, so this is not an issue whatsoever. Most landowners have a loan for 75-90% of the property. The bank will use the equity that you do have in your land for your construction loan.
How does payment work?
When you sign the build contract with us we will collect a nominal deposit from you. That is the one and only time that we will exchange money. Everything else will be done through a construction loan with the bank of your choosing. Don't make the mistake that these, these, and these aspiring DFW homeowners made and fork over a ton of money to the home builder. That almost never ends well.
Why not just pick a lot in a new neighborhood and build there?
Plenty of people do this, and some have a good experience with it. But on most occasions it will be a less than ideal experience for the homeowner for the following reasons.
- You will likely spend more money, since both the home and the land are marked up
- You'll be working with a sales associate instead of the owner. The owner has your best interests in mind, the sales associate wants to sell you upgrades and is juggling 2 other neighborhoods
- You'll have fewer choices of lots
- You run the increased risk of an over-leveraged builder going bankrupt with your hard-earned money.
